D&AD New Blood 2012 – The goodies

New Blood is all about the atmosphere, networking and most importantly, the work. The work is the main event but good propaganda brings attention to your stall and therefore to your work. The stereotype is that students love anything for free, so I played on this and made full use of the opportunity to pick up all of the lovely freebies! From course brochures and newspapers to business cards and posters – it’s rude not to take one…

This year newspapers seemed very popular and used either as a portable reminder of the work or to communicate a message from the students.

Also on offer, some posters:

A screen printed Helen Keller quote by Alexandra Watson of Sheffield Hallam from her braille typography project.

You might recognise the above screen print by Robert Baughan of Southampton Solent. The ‘Fresh Meat’ identity really helped their stall to become memorable and stand out from the rest. As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of my Limited Edition posters.

I collected a few business cards that I either found interesting or belonged to a really talented designer:

From beautiful traditional printmaking with fluorescent edging from Aaron Skipper

… to a yummy bad of chocolate bar from Charlotte Olsen!

I also liked Kyle McPartlin‘s mini poster…

… I guess because it was just something a bit different.

Of course, I really enjoyed collecting all the lovely free design bit & bobs but it was a big eye opener to the preparation needed for next summer when it’s my turn to grab attention. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail… and failing is not an option!
