♥ Fred Aldous. No, he’s not some hot movie star. No, he’s not my boyfriend (you can stop panicking, Jack). Fred Aldous is an amazing shop in Manchester selling paper, notebooks, cards, craft things, books and all other designery things which creatives get really excited about.

I’ve mentioned the shop before, but I had a weekend away in Manchester with Sophie (my sister – do you think we look a-like?) and rediscovered my love for all things Aldous. Welcome to creative heaven:

From cardboard cities and colourful books…

…to photobooths! Sadly we didn’t go inside, but next time it’s on the list!

There’s a huge range of tritastic cards and ready made 3D letters to buy (but don’t forget you can make your own using my tutorial) or pose with… S for Sophie:

I considered treating myself to a mini N, but I really love making them from scratch so it makes no sense really.

Behind the counter is an extensive range of Lomography cameras:

… very tempting – I just want to take them all home!

And if that wasn’t enough, the fun continues downstairs…

I spotted this retro stained glass sign (not photographed very well, sorry!) hanging up high:

Est. 1886?  How have I lived for 24 years and not known about this place?

And then my attention was drawn to the multi coloured collections of pens and papers:

Being a creative student in Manchester/Salford must be a dream when you have this place on your door step! If only Lincoln had been so generous!

And Fred Aldous isn’t just a place to buy things for making:

You can hire the lazer cutting space or join the Ministry of craft for a variety of workshops!

Sophie spotted these stencil books which we had when we were younger so we embraced the nostalgia:

Fred Aldous is so amazing that Soph admitted that even as a non-designer it was amazing.

If you haven’t been before, get yourself to Manchester’s Northern Quarter and buy pens, notebooks and a lomo camera! It’s the secret to happiness… you heard it here first! 🙂

Let me know what your favourite thing about Fred Aldous is? If you’ve not been, what are you looking forward to buying? ha

Unfortunately I love in the United States in the middle of nowhere Ohio, but that place reminded me of the art shops that I can drive to such as Michaels and Hobby Lobby where that is my closest way of getting to Artist Heaven lol. Thanks for the post though. If I ever go to the UK, I will know where to go for art supplies! 🙂

I’m sure the USA has plenty of amazing creative shops for you to enjoy Kaitlin – I can only imagine! But definitely recommend a visit to Fred Aldous if you find yourself in Manchester, UK!

I moved to Manchester last September and I actually found out about this shop because you mentioned it a while ago. Every time I go I want to buy all the things

This place looks so familiar to me, I think I went there once during my hazy days as a northern student. MUST go again though! 🙂
