Hands up if you’ve not even thought about buying Christmas presents yet…? No, I haven’t started either! However with the 25th edging closer, I thought I’d post a few suggestions for what to buy the creative in your life this Christmas. Maybe it’s for a creative friend, loved one or yourself – they/you deserve it! 😉
Christmas Gift Ideas for Creatives
Looking for something they can get creative with but don’t want to insult them by buying felt tips or colouring crayons? Winsor & Newton have just released some amazing pigment markers which will keep any creative happy. They look like a pen, but they work like paint – don’t forget to buy a blender marker though! Check out my blog post for more on how the Pigment Markers work.
If you don’t think paint is their thing, maybe a calligraphy class or screen printing workshop will satisfy their need to get their hands dirty?
Want a gift that keeps giving? Well with a magazine subscription from magazine.co.uk you’ll get just that – a magazine delivered to their door throughout the year. I have subscriptions to Computer Arts, Wallpaper and Porter magazine, all are great reads for creatives! (And when I’m finished reading them I make them into collages too – the fun continues!)
Magazine subscriptions available from magazine.co.uk – starting from £9.95
Whilst we’re on the subject of reading… what about a book? After seeing him talk at Offset LDN 2015 I can guarantee that Vince Frost’s Design Your Life: Applying Design Principles to Your Life would go down well (I received it as a leaving present from my studio). My other recommendations include: How to use graphic design to , It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be , Make enemies & gain fans , Make Your Own Luck: A DIY Attitude to Graphic Design and Illustration (Feel free to send me any of those in the post pleaseandthanks)
Vince Frost’s Design Your Life – £16.59 from Amazon
In this digital age, having printed photos is becoming a rarity but don’t let that stop your creative loved one: buy them a Lomography camera! I bought Jack the Konstructor last Christmas (it’s out of stock now), but there are so many quirky cameras to choose from – will you choose a Fish eye, Diana mini or La Sardina maybe?
Lomography Cameras (Konstructor, Pink Fish Eye, Black La Sardina and Gold Diana F+) – starting at £39.99 from Lomography
And last but not least, because what’s Christmas without a pair of socks? Everyone will/should get at least 1 pair of socks, so why not make them a cool pair? Chatty Feet have some really fun designs ranging from cartoon characters and cute monsters to royalty (Kate Middle-toe) and artists. Think Andy Sock-hole (Warhol), Feetasso (Picasso) or Frida Callus (Kahlo) for the creative in your life:
Frida Callus – £7.50 from Chatty Feet
So I hope that gave you a couple of ideas – I tried to cover a range of budgets. I’m 99.9% sure that any creative would love to unwrap any of those gifts this Christmas, so what are you waiting for? Get ordering because otherwise you’ll miss Santa’s post!
Let me know what you’ll be keeping your fingers crossed for under the tree – I’m hoping for a screen printing kit 🙂
