Last week I gave you 21 24 amazing Creative Instagrammers that would guarantee endless scrolling & fill your Instafeed with inspiration. This week I’m looking a bit deeper into Instagram: hashtags.
#. Hashtag. What is a hashtag? It’s a descriptive word which can be used to group and collect other similar pieces of information. You’ve probably come across Hashtags on Twitter, Facebook and TV – most events/programmes have one.
Hashtags are a great way for searching/ directing others to your content. The trick is not to use totally obvious/common ones though because your post will just get lost in the feed e.g. if you’re posting a photo of a dog in a park, don’t just hashtag #dog and be done with it. You should hashtag the breed #sausagedog, the location #Hydepark #WestLondon #London, as well as any other relevant related tags e.g. #dogsofinstagram #petstagram #mansbestfriend #furryfriend – I don’t post images of dogs so I’m just guessing here. The general gist is to think outside of the box and discover good hashtags.
How do you find good hashtags? I usually find them via looking at other people’s posts and a bit of something I like to call ‘hashtag hopping’. Basically just going from hashtag to hashtag, looking at good posts and seeing which other hashtags are used. It does take a bit of digging, but it’s worth it in the end. So I wanted to share a few creative hashtags that I have discovered to get you started on your journey:
GENERAL CREATIVITY
COLOUR
TYPOGRAPHIC
INSPIRATIONAL
AS PRETTY AS A PICTURE
LONDON CALLING
VSCO (If you don’t have this app, download it NOW)
Hope those hashtags help you in your Instagram inspiration quest. Do you have any favourites? Let me know so I can check them out too.
