Behind the scenes: A designer’s desk

There’s been a lot of desk activity going on at GF HQ recently: I filmed a Desk tour video and was visited by the lovely Jo Crawford to take part in her Bloggers at their desks series.

Living (with my boyf) in a dark small-ish bedroom in a rented London house means that space is quite limited; despite the squeeze, I feel pretty lucky to have just enough space for a desk and somewhere to film/flatlay/be a blogger. But let’s face it we can’t all have amazing Pinterest-worthy working spaces, so most of us have just got to make do with what we’ve got!

I love seeing creative’s working spaces – the piles of paper, quirky collections and the view. Is anyone else with me on this?

I’ve had my fair share of enjoyment from being nosy, so I wanted to give something back and share a behind the scenes view of my own space. You can watch my desk tour video (and subscribe to my Youtube channel for more videos on creativity) and then scroll down to see Jo’s photos of my space:

I’ve had my cork noticeboard for years now (probably over 10 – eeek!) and I try to curate a mixture of memories and inspiration via the displayed items: a Kikki K quote poster, handmade rosettes and my Legoland driving license (which is dated 1999 but Jack says that I still look the same ha!) – an essential!

Y’all know that I’m used to being the one behind the camera, so when the lens is turned I freeze up – I have 3 poses: 1 – scared smile, 2 – weird face, 3 – raised eyebrows. Luckily Jo was very patient with me and good at catching a more natural giggle.

I have a good selection of design-themed books at the moment because I’m on a bit of a book review streak. I used to be a big reader when I was younger (I read every book in the Young Person’s section at my local library and started to order books in from across the county – exciting times!) so I’ve been trying to get back into it and use my daily commute time to escape into a literary land. It’s working well so far…

Of course, my desk space is rarely this tidy… but when you have company it’s only polite!

What do you decorate your space with? Please send me links to your creative spaces if they’re out there on the web because I’d love to see them!

I love this post Natasha! It’s always fun to be a bit nosy and peek into other people’s spaces, yours is so cute and full of personal touches. I feel like you can tell a lot about a person from their desk.

Thanks Rosie 🙂 Yes, I’m glad you’re the same as me… nothing wrong with being nosy 😉 That’s a good point actually – I agree that you can tell a lot about a person from their space! I wonder what my space says about me… that I like to keep memories and books and printed things? ha
