What’s in the window? #4

What’s in the window? Me! Well I’m not anymore, but I was in the window today creating a display for the auction.
The Auction 13 team have been given permission to use TPH’s window to display our lovely postcards, so we set to work:

We’ve displayed the postcards that we’ve received so far on a bookcase. To create some suspense and excitement, we’ve  created a guessing game by placing tags with a numbers. Get involved  on twitter by guessing which numbered postcard was created by who – it’s a bit of fun!

The boys worked hard on our blackboard:

There’s a date for the auction now, with bidding opening 6th May and ending from 6PM Sunday 12th May – plenty of time to get your bids in!

What do you think to our window? We’ve had some great comments already but we’d love to hear from you – tweet us!

If you’re around Lincoln, pop down to Thomas Parker House and take a look at the postcards in detail. But if you’re elsewhere in the world don’t worry, we’ll have close up images of all of our lovely postcards very soon.

Watch our video to see how it all came together:

We are so grateful to all the creatives involved – thank you! Keep an eye on twitter as we’ll start to turn over the tags to reveal the creative behind the postcard.  In the meantime, get involved in the guessing game on twitter and help to spread the word – we’d really appreciate it!

I’ve got my eye on a couple of postcards, so will be keeping my fingers crossed, but will just be happy to raise money for Show Thirteen and brighten people’s days with some lovely postcards.

Featured: Packaging Structures – The Book has arrived!

Back in February, I posted about my work being featured in a Packaging book and I managed to persuade the publishers to send me a copy for free. Well, I thought it was too good to be true after nearly 2 months and no sign of a book but the other Thursday, it arrived!

I had a quick peek inside but it was only today that I finally got around to having a proper drool over it because I’ve been so busy…

I find the publication style a bit odd – it’s hardbound but the cover is about an inch smaller than the main feature pages.

At the front (the same size as the cover) there is a designer index with bibliographies of all featured. Then it leads onto the bigger pages, with the work:

My spread is pages 186-187.

It feels really weird, but good to be a published designer already at this early stage in my career – I feel really privileged! I don’t really like the piece of work anymore (it was a long time ago – college ’10!) but it is very exciting to be recognised amongst some really interesting packaging concepts. Who wants to borrow the book then?

I was a bit shocked when I saw it was worth ¥300.00 on Sendpoint’s website but then I googled how many ¥ a loaf of bread is worth and realised that it wasn’t as steep as it first seemed!  I’ve found the book is available to pre-order on Amazon for just short of £22, so buy it – and if you ask me nicely, I might even sign it for you… Just kidding – I’m not a diva!

Featured: Kombucha Packaging @ Sendpoint Books

This is so exciting and crazy, I almost didn’t believe it at first!

I am a now published designer! My work in featured in a BOOK! Yes, a real life, printed, published, dispersed around the world, book!

Packaging Structures features my Kombucha health drink packaging from back when I was at college!

It’s just madness! Back in July I uploaded the project to my Behance profile and within 2 hours I had received an email from Sendpoint publishers expressing an interest in my project!

I’ve got my own section in the designers biography section…

…and pages 186 – 187 are mine!

So happy to be featured!

Everyone buy a copy :)

CoWA Art & Design Exhibition 2011

It is really weird to think that last year this post was about MY college exhibition – it all feels so long ago!

Friday evening Dani, Bobbins and I went back to the college to check out the ‘first years’ work. Well they’re technically second years but will always be the first years to us :)

We had seen some of the work coming together when we visited the other week, so it was really nice to see the finished stuff in the gallery! Here’s some highlights…. (btw I would just like to give a mention to Chris Webster’s Hotel & Casino ‘The Londoner’ and Jake Bailey’s Vegan cosmetic range ‘immoral’, of which I took photos of but even photoshop could not save them! Sorry, I should really learn how to use my big camera (Aled) haha)

Chanté White’s medicine labels had a retro vibe

Will Pateman’s PS3 game design looked fresh from the shelves of Gamestation

Jake Masham’s film festival branding was a perfect fit for Film 4

Dani and Bobbins noticed that Tommy King’s Peng mints advertising facebook example featured yours truly….

I don’t remember why I like monday but anyway…

I loved Aliesha Forbes’ magazine logo made from layering the word ‘Inspired’

We bumped into Kelly Sheanon, who was with us for 2 years and has just finished her foundation year! She’s joining us at Lincoln in September with Aliesha and Jake Bailey!

We thought Kelly’s film festival work looked tasty

And we kept finding random bits of our work too…

Dani found her handmade type from back in first year! Then we found some work that was supposed to be on the walls :)

Our college tutor had asked us to submit some work for the ‘Where are you now’ section so we loaned him our zines and type tart cards. It was really nice to be included in the exhibition, and as one of the tutors said ‘it helps the students see where they can be in the future’… so thankyou for having us :)

I quite enjoyed the Milton Glaser inspired floor decoration too

Good work guys! Hope you all have a great time at Uni (the majority are going to NUCA I think), travelling or going into work – Good luck with everything!

Live in or near to Kings Lynn & want to do a National Diploma in Graphic Design? Looky here

Oh also, on a quick note – this was the first outing of my punctuation tights!! Here’s some of the Graphics guys and me being jumped on by Jake & Will…

Remembering where I came from…

Today I made a trip back to my old college with Dani and Bobbins.

It was lovely to have a catch up with my old tutor and the current second years and show some of my work, but weird too.
The college holds a lot of memories….laughter, fun, inspiration, challenges, hard work, stress and as I have said many times before… it made me the designer I am today (although I hope I’ve improved a bit since being at Uni)!

The second years are a couple of weeks into their FMP now… and so casual. It made me think back to my FMP when I was working day and night, basically living at the college… ahhh the memories! I love Lincoln but I do miss Skinner and his enthusiasm… I did tell the second years ‘You’ll miss him when you leave’ but of course they won’t realise until they do leave. :)

I was a little bit jealous that they have some great projects to do and I am sitting around doing nothing at the moment. I’m in the process of deciding on what projects to set myself for the summer – so many choices!

Oh, whilst in college I found a photo of me collecting my award for ‘Contribution to the student community’ at the exhibition evening last year…

It looks like I’m being sent off stage…. but I did choose to make a swift exit! Haha
