As the additional Printmaking award is coming to a close (start on Multi-disiplinary soon) it was about time to do the main poster! It has to have some kind of printmaking element to it… so we could produce most of it digitally but I decided that I would like to Silk Screen my design. This meant that I had to learn the process though because we hadnt been able to fit it into the lessons…...

Before christmas we had been doing some bookmaking and I made 3 books in total (view them here)… And then we were set the challenge of making a book with content, which was also made from unusual materials. At first I was quite stumped on what I was going to produce – it’s always harder when the possibilities are endless I find? I didn’t recieve either of my christmas presents from my boyfriend on time…...

Yes I realise on December 1st I said ‘next week I can apply ink and print with it’… and I did, but everything got so hectic with the CD Design and Book Design deadlines I just forgot to blog the results… After using my collagraph to emboss I couldn’t wait for the varnish to dry so I could ink it up… and it was worth the wait – I love this printing technique! The first inking...

I found something to blog about! I knew I had forgotten something! I have a confession to make: I LOVE linocutting now. Actually love. Like j’adore, you know? 🙂 I know… I used to hate it, but woo look at me go now:   I first printed with red ink (which I think is pretty nice?) and then I got a bit adventurous and rolled black ink on, but allowed for some red to show...

I realise this is a little late now, afterall I handed this project in the 15th December! But I just remembered that I didn’t actually blog the final outcomes… and I am in the blogging mood but don’t really have anything interesting to post at the moment. That is the final look of CD2 – Mozart Variations Two – Moderato I nervously took my CDs to the local HMV store and asked if I could...

My CD Design has really developed since the last post; I’m almost finished now! I have mainly been working on the front and back of the fold out poster and aligning the inlay image with the CD image. This is because I have chosen to use a compass as the main image on the CD face and then match it up on the inlay tray. Hopefully the printer won’t affect the alignment, but I have a...

So yesterday afternoon I continued on adding to my series of books (which I still haven’t named yet! – I must get around to this soon!) Last week I did not take pictures of anything but I can tell you that I decided to have a go at making a hardcase japanese stab bound book so I was making my hard covers! Yesterday they were nice and dry and ready to be bound, so I pierced...

In our Printmaking sessions we are drawing to a close with introductiosn to the processes a.k.a we have nearly learnt the ones we will need to produce our final print (an A1 poster for the London Original Print Fair) Today we did collagraph printing, which is basically like creating a stamp. I did my name (which Luis said was unoriginal but ohwell) in different letters from different fonts, and I like it. I’m not sure...

This is another project(like book design) which is coming to a close now, with only 2 weeks left until the deadline! With it being our first project when we got back into the 2nd year of our course we all have struggled with this project really, as its coming to the point now where we are running around like headless chickens – we will learn, sometime in the future! Basically, the brief is to design 3 whole...

Since finishing the brick advertising challenge I have been working on another advertising brief. We have been challenged to create an advertising campaign for a charity or cause and I have chosen to try and stop texting while driving. Did you know that texting whilst driving is 3 times more dangerous than drink driving!? A study by the RAC Foundation found that reaction times were slowed by 35% when 17-24year olds drove while reading and...

Yesterday I printed my first linocut – when I say my first I mean I haven’t PRINTED before, I have linocut before and failed miserably! I think it turned out quite nicely; I chose a bright blue ink which really stood out next to the black ink my friends used. You will need: – Lino thats been cut with your design –  oil based relief printing ink – a scraper thingy to get it out...

This is an extension to the post from earlier this month! I added the last of the requirements (a non-photographic image e.g. a scanned image) to my designs and played about with them until I achieved an effect that I was happy with…. Ta-dah! These are only print screens which is the reason for the bad quality, sorry! Today we are having a critique in class so hopefully I will get some interesting feedback….

Every Friday afternoon between 1 and 3pm we get ‘Book horny’ a.k.a a book making session takes place. Our course tutor, Mr Skinner, is quite the book enthusiast and has tried out all different techniques of binding to make small, handmade, sketchbooks With help and guidance from Mr S. I completed my first handmade book 2 weeks ago, here she is: I should have sewn her a lot tighter, but lessons have been learnt and of course, I...

This project is nearly at a close now, with the deadline looming (like it seems to be for just about everything!) I have some work to show! Basically the brief was to create a book cover in the style of the classic Penguin series, using 3 randomly wikipedia generated subjects. My 3 subjects are: Telephone, New York City and Madison. We then had to search for a life source image and along with 2 other (1 photographic...

I predicted/hoped yesterday that we would be printing our etching plates in today’s Printmaking lesson – and YAY we did! 🙂 I scanned these in, but I don’t think it really does them any justice… they look a lot better in person. I’m quite happy with how my print had turned out – I had 2 gos technically because Neil used my plate as an example to show everyone. Next week we are doing Linocut...
