You can now address me as Natasha Nuttall BA Hons – I am officially a graduate! Thursday was a beautiful, magical, busy and emotional day. It was a bit of a blur, so at least there’s about 5 million photos to help me remember what happened! We were the first ceremony of the day at 10.30am: We started in the Castle grounds before heading to the Cathedral… My sister and I with the Graduation teddy...

What seems SUCH a long time a go, back in September I posted ‘The beginning of the end’. At the time I meant that it was the start of my last year of education. Now that my education is over, I’m twisting my own words and now it’s ‘the end of the beginning’. I’m really sad to have left Uni, but what I’ve come to realise is that my education is only the beginning of...

It’s taken me a while to get here, but finally here’s my post about New Blood 2013. One thing I discovered from writing this was that a lot of the students are really hard to find online – some don’t even have websites, which I find a bit weird. So it’s that time of year again… the sun is shining and the newest creative graduates are planning the next moves in their career. Last week...

So it’s that exciting time of the year where all of the degree shows start popping up. Unfortunately for anyone who follows my blog, the Lincoln Graphic Design degree show isn’t going to be a total surprise as I’ve blogged about it quite a bit. In both first and second year I ‘reviewed’ the shows  – sharing my favourite pieces of the brilliant work the 3rd year students had worked so hard on. Now that...

A long time ago (back in November would you believe!) I posted about my business cards, but with the degree show in mind they’ve had a bit of an update: With my panel focused on my dictionary of swearing and insults, ‘Mind your language’, I decided to use my typographic explorations to match. I thought it was a good idea to get my work ‘out there’ and end up in random places. Even though creatives...

I mentioned in my last post about being welcomed into the LSDT – Lincoln Société de Design Typographique. What is the LSDT? Philippa and Barrie began the LSDT for students that weren’t awarded ISTD but in their opinion deserved recognition. When submitting to ISTD you need quite thick skin as they are quite harsh with their feedback and particular about who they pass, but sometimes they get it wrong. Lincoln Alumni Dan Collier’s Typographic Links was failed by...

So it crept up on us – Friday was the private view of Show Thirteen! Friends, family and the Lincoln family (alumni) all gathered to celebrate the completion of our degree: With Pimms (and Peroni and wine and lemonade) and cake kindly made by Dave and Avril, we celebrated… … and the second years ran the bar for us – thanks again guys. There were great speeches from Chris, Emma and Barrie (‘TPH has been...

This week it’s been all about planning my panel (planel) in preparation for Show Thirteen. I’ve chosen to just show one project (you’ll be able to see the rest of my work in my portfolio next to it!) and it was approved: Oh look, there’s Barrie arrrsss-ing around! The tutors have placed everyone now so we can get to work on our panels – some people have painted their panel but I’m keeping mine white...

…-trick. hat-trick‘s Jim Sutherland visited Lincoln as part of the Chitter-Chatter talks series. I remember going to his talk two years ago when I was a 1st year and being really inspired. Ever since then I’ve kept an eye on their work and was really excited to hear that Jim would be doing another talk. For the full low down, read what I wrote on the Show Thirteen blog. I briefly talked about their work...

Since the last crit EVER on Friday afternoon I haven’t stopped! I edited Week #10 of the Show Thirteen videos Friday evening, shot more of my Metamorphosis time lapses on Saturday: We had a picnic… … a party complete with Limbo… … a pillow fight… … and made human pyramid! We know how to have fun in an empty room 🙂 Not wanting to waste the balloons, we had a Birthday BBQ on Sunday for...

Today Barrie kindly arranged for two designers to offer their help and advice with a portfolio surgery. I was lucky enough to see both Kath Tudball from Johnson Banks and Alan Herron from Alan Herron Stuff as another student had dropped out. Both were really chatty, friendly and helpful. It was great to talk through my portfolio and discuss it with experienced designers – it’s given me a bit more confidence about my ideas. I’ve...

It’s been such a busy week; meetings, auction 13 stuff, RGB stuff, blog stuff, press & comms stuff, photos and videos. It’s all very exciting, but all very tiring. We have received 26 postcards so far and began revealing some of the creatives behind them today. Keep up to date with all Auction news here and don’t forget that bidding opens Monday 6th May and ends from 6PM Sunday 12th May! RGB is back! In February...

I love the internet, social networking and email – it’s all so fast and easy. However, for me, there’s nothing quite like getting post. I love it! So  mix that feeling with the idea of receiving post from some of the best creatives in the world and you can just imagine; I’m like a kid at Christmas! Auction 13 is well underway and exciting envelopes stamped with our 13 have been  appearing. It’s a brilliant...

… this! You may remember a little while back (a month today actually!) I was doing some weird things with my room – emptying it, inviting people over, doing the conga etc. It was all good fun, but what was it actually for? As the penultimate brief of our degree ( cry), Philippa gave us an open brief with a starting point. Franz Kafka’s ‘Metamorphosis’, which is the story of a hard working travelling salesman...
