Planel

This week it’s been all about planning my panel (planel) in preparation for Show Thirteen. I’ve chosen to just show one project (you’ll be able to see the rest of my work in my portfolio next to it!) and it was approved:

Oh look, there’s Barrie arrrsss-ing around!

The tutors have placed everyone now so we can get to work on our panels – some people have painted their panel but I’m keeping mine white as I think my swear words are colourful enough ;) I’ve not got anything to hang just yet as the plotter broke this afternoon (typical!) so I’m just using odd ends of paper at the moment:

Can’t wait to get it all finished. The Private View night isn’t too far away now – eeek!

In other news, I’ve also been working on finishing my Metamorphosis project:

It’s only taken about 3 days to cut, photograph and edit all of these. I’m still waiting for all of the feeling to come back in my fingers from all the scalpel-ing!

Oh, also take a look at the quick video invite I made for Show Thirteen:

I’m looking forward to meeting some new people between 1st and 14th of June – are you coming to see Show Thirteen? Now back to work I go…

In it to win it – Auction 13

Being part of the Auction 13 team has been hard work, but really rewarding and enjoyable. Liaising with designers has been a great experience and receiving their designs was so exciting.

We received 25 brilliant postcards to begin with and raised £197.14, which is amazing – we never expected to raise that amount of money!
I had my eye on one postcard in particular, and after a bidding battle, I won it:

I placed the highest bid of Auction 13 (so far – we still have 8 postcards live at the moment) and it was worth every penny – it’s beautiful.

Alan Kitching‘s letter pressed postcard is a sample of his newest typographic maps which are currently on show at Pencil to Pixel in New York. I noticed it from Vicky Heinlein’s blog post which was retweeted by Eye Magazine:

I’ve loved Alan’s work for a while now – it’s so simple, bold and colourful. I’m so happy to own an original print of his and will definitely be getting it framed!

Thanks to Alan and all of the artists involved with Auction 13 – we can’t thank you enough. We know you’re all super busy, but really appreciate you remembering what it’s like to be a student and helping us out. Hopefully I will be able to do the same in 20 years or so… who knows?

Remember, there’s still 8 postcards to bid on, ending tomorrow from 6PM – Seb Lester, Design by St, Elmwood, Catherine Zask, Manny Ling, The Caseroom Press, Deutsche and Japaner and Jack Crossing. Get yourself to ebay, bag a unique piece of design and support Lincoln’s Graphic Design students – Show Thirteen.

Bank Holiday Activities

Since the last crit EVER on Friday afternoon I haven’t stopped! I edited Week #10 of the Show Thirteen videos Friday evening, shot more of my Metamorphosis time lapses on Saturday:

We had a picnic…

… a party complete with Limbo…

… a pillow fight…

… and made human pyramid! We know how to have fun in an empty room :)

Not wanting to waste the balloons, we had a Birthday BBQ on Sunday for Jack’s belated 21st. It was his actual birthday on Wednesday but with the final crits on Thurs and Fri, he kept working!

Auction 13 went live today – so exciting to see that we have 44 bids on 13 of our postcards already:

Check out all of the postcards on ebay and get your bids in soon as it all ends on Sunday 12th May from 6PM.

Today I’ve been making invites for the Private View of Show Thirteen

Thanks to my team of helpers – Dave, Emma, Jake, Jack, Becky A & Becky C.

We produced over 80 invites today – they look pretty good if I do say so myself! :)

It’s been a  lovely sunny weekend so naturally, as a typical English person, I now look like a lobster ha But really excited to get started building Show Thirteen tomorrow!

Going dotty

It’s been such a busy week – I’m going dotty:

There’s so much going on, I don’t know whether I’m coming or going! Just thought I’d post a quick photo of my mess of a desk – I’ve been working in the studio today. It’s my last University crit EVER on Friday – it’s pretty scary! I haven’t got time to think about that yet though…

Non stop

It’s been such a busy week; meetings, auction 13 stuff, RGB stuff, blog stuff, press & comms stuff, photos and videos. It’s all very exciting, but all very tiring.

We have received 26 postcards so far and began revealing some of the creatives behind them today. Keep up to date with all Auction news here and don’t forget that bidding opens Monday 6th May and ends from 6PM Sunday 12th May!

RGB is back! In February we organised the first RGB fundraising night out and it was such a success that we’re doing another to finish the year. It’s a slight twist this time as we have some special guests so should be fun.

I’ve been continuing to film snippets of Show Thirteen happenings and another video will be live in the morning (I’ve exceeded my vimeo space limit this week – ooops!) – see it here. Within those snippets is some behind the scenes footage of a group year photo that took place on Wednesday:

Awwww don’t we all look nice and squinty? hah Oh and if you can’t tell from that photo, I’ve had my hair done :)

Just one week of timetabled project time left now – where has the time gone!? If anyone knows where Bernard’s watch is…
