Because you’re worth it!

Yesterday I had the final crit of my D&AD project with Zoe. About half way through, Barrie popped in. He said he had been interviewing a prospective student and asked them ‘Why Lincoln?’. They replied ‘Because of Natasha Nuttall’s blog’.

I couldn’t believe it! I began writing my blog when I was at college to help be more critical of my own work and engage in the design world. Since then, it has grown into a lot more than that – I have followers that look forward to Tri Fri posts every week. It’s a weird feeling for me, but a great one. I would still blog even if I was only talking to myself, but knowing that some people are reading (and hopefully enjoying) what I have to say is a great buzz.

It’s such a great feeling to think that by just blogging I have inspired someone to study Graphic Design at University, and Lincoln is a great choice. Emma & I have helped out with a couple of open days and it was great to speak to students and parents, to share our experiences and our passion for our course.

Graphic Design courses are famously known as being a lot of hard work and very stressful, but I can honestly say that I have absolutely LOVED my time at Lincoln and it already makes me sad to think that I’ll be leaving in a couple of months! I was editing my CV on Monday (which I hadn’t touched since 1st year) and I’d kind of forgotten how much I’ve achieved in the past 3 years. It wasn’t until I saw it all it written on paper, that it really hit me!

To the person who had the interview with Barrie – Thanks, yesterday I had the biggest smile! I hope it went well and fingers crossed that you will come to Lincoln and maybe even carry on the blogging legacy? Get in touch!

From me to you

(not intended to sound like the Chuckle Brothers, but hey…)

So I’ve been blogging for almost 4 years now. In the beginning this blog was just about me keeping a record of my journey through college and it was just me talking to myself. Fast forward to now, and my blog is a lot more than that. I’m still keeping a record of my journey (through Uni), but now people actually read what I write – people from 315 countries have visited my blog!

I get complimented on my blog, which always makes me blush and have been referred to as ‘the blog girl’ which as weird as it is, is great because that was someone that I had never met before that remembered my blog!

I love blogging and would still be doing it even if no one read mine, but it’s a great feeling to think that my blog has helped people. J’adore and Triangle Friday have both provided design inspiration and I’ve heard that I’ve inspired a few people to write their own blog which is great! I’ve also been giving my blog link to students I have met whilst helping at the University open day – to give a real insight to the course. But I want to give something more to you guys.

Graphique Fantastique is really close to reaching 100,000 views – which is crazy. At the moment I’m writing this, the number stands at 99,388, but by looking at stats I predict I will reach the big 100K by the end of the week! To say thank you to everyone who reads, likes, comments and follows I want to give you the opportunity to win a silk screen printed poster:

This is a poster which I produced for a group magazine project . It’s the optimistic version because I feel that a positive outlook on life is the best to have and I would like to think it’s an attitude that my blog conveys. It’s just smaller than A3, printed with white ink on fluorescent orange paper (Paperchase’s finest!). I only printed 10 of these so it’s limited edition, and when I’m famous it might be worth something? (a girl can dream) ha

To win, either send me an email including your name (and a nice message if you like) to trianglefriday@hotmail.com – OR tweet/retweet this:
I’m helping @natashanuttall celebrate 100K views for http://www.graphiquefantastique.com & want to win the fluoro poster for my wall RT TO ENTER

Spread the word :)  I’ll pick the winner a week today,on Tuesday 27th November at 9PM (UK time) so keep your fingers crossed! Winning this poster will brighten up your day – it literally will; the orange is that bright! :)

Good Luck :)

EDIT:
Someone asked me to see a close up of the details of the type, so here’s a close up of the digital file which I used to print from:

So you can tell now – the type has been sliced and framed by 2 lines at the top and bottom. It’s set in the lovely Didot too :)

EDIT:
So at around 2PM UK Time on 23rd November, this happened:

100,003 views! Thanks to everyone who has supported my blog since I began posting on WordPress in June 2009 (and before on blogspot from Jan 2009). I really appreciate every view, comment and follower :)

The blog’s new clothes

Some may have noticed something a bit different recently…?

It’s been about 3 weeks now since I gave the blog some new ‘clothes’ – from stripes to triangles but still keeping with the mint green. It’s weird actually because it was around the same time last year that I changed it from the original look I had since the beginning…

2010

2011

2012

I haven’t really had that many comments about it so what do you think? Like/dislike? If you’re wondering what it’s all about, then this will hopefully help you make the connection:

I thought it was time for a change seeing as I’m going into my final year in September. I wanted something a bit cleaner and more professional, rather than the sweet shop candy stripes I had before (which I loved at the time but don’t think it really matches my work/style now).

I’ve had a few comments and it would seem that triangle love is in the air…   ▲

2 Years Young

Today Graphique Fantastique celebrates posting on wordpress for 2 years! Eeek! I say ’2 years young’ because old sounds so negative, and I’ve got so much more to give on this blog yet – 2nd year, 3rd year, graduation, trying to get a job and all the bumps along the way! When I’m rich and famous, writing my success story will be so easy because everything will be here…. well, a girl can dream! :)

Thanks to everyone who has ever clicked – all 26,741 views! I can’t believe it – I still write posts like I’m just talking to myself haha It mean so much to me and it’s really scary how time flies but I have achieved some really great things with this blog. Thankyou to Lestaret  for getting me into blogging :)

I wanted to have a special image to mark the ‘occasion’ but it’s got to that time of the year where I seem to lose my creative spark again. :( (Well at least I can’t mess any of my grades up this year!)  So instead here’s a sketch I did the other week when I went to visit Jack in Ely (He says it looks like Downing Street – what do you think?) and my Mum’s flowers in the background – aren’t they massive!?

Later this evening I am going to the private view of COWA’s Art & Design 2011 exhibition – my old college! I’m looking forward to seeing what’s on offer this year, especially the Graphics lot! I’m hoping it will give me the kick I need :)

Guest Contributor @ Discourse

Check me out!

Ahhh so excited/happy about this!

My University tutor asked me to be a guest contributor on the course blog, Discourse and you know me – I love blogging so couldn’t pass down the opportunity! My first post is one that you might recognise as J’adore LetterMPress App for Ipad but I will be doing some other posts about current designy things exclusively for Discourse! (I will let you know though!)

Looking forward to filling some of my time with this over the summer :)
