Triangle Friday #19

Welcome to the weekend – happy Triangle Friday! I follow over 200 blogs (ridiculous, I know!) and one of my recent favourites  is Geometry Daily. It’s a tumblr blog on which Tilman, a Graphic Designer from Germany, creates and posts a new geometric minimal composition everyday. Triangles are classed under the geometric family, and so feature in a lot of Tilman’s creations which makes me happy!

Feast your eyes on these:

From simple outlines…

.. to optical illusions…

… structural patterns…

… and just nice looking triangles.

I love seeing a new addition every day – such a great idea to help to stay creative and produce such different visuals from essentially just lines, shapes, shading and colours! I wish I could commit and stick to doing something small and creative everyday but I find it hard enough to sort a weekly post just recently haha

If like me, you love geometric shapes too, I definitely recommend following Tilman’s tumblr blog!

I hope you all have a tri-tastic weekend. Got anything triangular to share? I’d love to see it so get in touch (read more here).

J’adore… Nikki Farquharson

It’s been a while since my last J’adore post, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been inspired! I have been posting about my adventures at University more recently but going to try and get back into J’adore.

Nikki Farquharson is a graphic designer-turned-illustrator who has a passion for shapes, patterns and colour (which I love too – check out my Pinterest board)! I first became aware of her work when a new nightclub opened in Lincoln and I was given a striking leaflet which I actually have on my wall…

(I started making a collage on my wall in August but haven’t got around to finishing it yet…)

…and the rest of her work is just as amazing:

I just can’t get enough of all the line variations, mix of shapes and clashing colours.

Another thing I love about Nikki’s work is her mixed media approach. I think the use of photography with hand drawn illustration makes it really eye catching and can’t believe that they are hand rendered.

It’s no surprise that Nikki has been commissioned by many magazines and brands to create fresh and quirky visuals:

Fashion spread in Missbehave Magazine

Make Up packaging for Benefit Cosmetics

and this AMAZING bottle design for Malibu – good enough to eat!

And Nikki’s talents aren’t limited to creating just pretty patterns:

… she does type too! To see what this spells, check out her shop where you can purchase a screen printed version.

Nikki has also produced Random Got Beautiful, which she describes as: ‘An ongoing photographic project which is open to public participation. Its concept is to take images containing dominant colours out of their original context and place them together to create a new one.’

I love this – such a great, interesting idea! Submit your own photos.. I am going to have a flick through my albums and see if I can donate anything.

So definitely visit Nikki’s website because she’s got a lot of interesting collaborations happening – I can’t wait to see what she does next.

J’adore… Anna Garforth

As anyone who is a regular reader will know, I have quite a bit of love for triangles and geometric shapes so when I saw Anna Garforth‘s work I was drooling a little…

These pyramid style paper objects look quite interesting…

… all made from pages of a telephone directory…

… and collectively form this lovely little installation which Anna produced for Squire & Partners’ street party during the London Festival of Architecture 2010. The event celebrated LFA’s “Love your Street” theme.

And more geometrics…

Anna’s Kusudama lights are influenced by Japanese paper craft

Anna is also keen on creating type from objects – something we have in common… but she gets paid for it haha!

Her moss typographic works are popular…

… and I think the work created in a workshop taught by Anna and Eleanor Stevens to design students at LCC (London College of Communication) where they turned rubbish into a typographic installation is really cool!

It’s weird how scraps of rubbish can come together to make something interesting, quirky and contemporary!
