How did you spend last Friday night? Pints at the pub? Latest film at the cinema? Going back to University…? Yep, it’s that time of year again: Degree Show time! As per every year, I get to Kings Cross and Lincoln Alumni seem to be everywhere – we always manage to book the same train without coordinating. Show Sixteen. SIXTEEN!? I can’t believe it’s been 3 years (exactly today) since my degree show (I literally start...

I can’t believe it’s been 2 years since my degree show/graduation, time flies… As mentioned in week 8 of #100daysoftriangles, I popped back to Lincoln last week for the annual reunion – the degree show! Show Fifteen had been causing quite a stir online with their humorous/weird GIFs, so I was excited to go back and see how all of these little caterpillars had turned into butterflies. From the hidden depths of the yellow unknown, I’m bringing you...

I’ve had something in the pipeline for a few months, and yesterday it was time. My University tutor, Barrie, and one of the current 3rd years, Jess, had asked me if I would go back to Lincoln to give a talk to students. Over the past year or so I have been posting things I have learnt/advice for students so I thought I would have something a bit different to offer and said yes. Somehow I didn’t realise that...

It feels so long since I shared a sketchbook post! I’ve been so busy I’ve not really had time to sketch, but I have been avoiding it a bit too. That sounds confusing, I know, but let me explain… Friday 30th August I headed up Steep Hill to sketch: Wahey! I managed to sketch in pencil, which I usually have a problem with. Steep Hill was unusually quiet too, so perfect for me to sketch...

After a busy Bank Holiday weekend, I’m back with my sketchbook! I was thinking the other day that if I’d been logical about it, I could have gone up/down Steep Hill, but of course, I haven’t been logical because where’s the fun in that!? (it won’t matter anyway unless you know Lincoln) So in a big leap from the very top, to the very bottom: I kinda feel like because these little houses are right at the...

Last Wednesday I began a sketch up the top of Lincoln’s lovely Steep Hill (Britain’s great street winner 2012!) but I didn’t get very far due to it deciding to rain… But it doesn’t rain all the time in Lincoln (the weather has actually been really nice at points!) so I headed back to the same bench to continue my sketch… (Photo kindly taken by Glen) But did I finish it? No. From one extreme...

So now that I’m getting into the habit of taking my sketchbook with me, I have a couple of sketches from my travels. I didn’t get time to sketch in Nottingham but I made a flying visit to London at the weekend to see my friend’s band (Young Aviators – Irish rascals) play a gig. The morning after, I found myself in Kings Cross for 4 hours: It’s actually quite hard to find somewhere to sit...

It was great to finally meet everyone at the Frequency team meeting last week. They’re really enthusiastic and passionate about Frequency and I think it’s pretty much impossible to avoid that from rubbing off – definitely a good thing. We looked at the previous branding, and with so many ideas bouncing around, a lot of notes were taken! Yesterday was the first day of my internship! The guys at Blueprint welcomed Lisa & I (the...

A couple of weeks ago I travelled to Nottingham for my second interview since finishing Uni. I admit, I’ve been quite picky with the jobs I’ve applied for – I don’t want to just go anywhere, work for free and be put back on the conveyor belt at the end of the week to make way for the next intern. I want to learn, gain experience and get involved, not sit in the corner for...

I’m back up North now – it’s great to be back in Lincoln. I’ve had quite a busy summer travelling around a bit and working but now it’s back to business! This is the last year of my degree, which is exciting and very scary. Last week it was graduation day for the 3rd years 2012, which means I’m now officially a 3rd year 2013. Emma & I went up to the Cathedral to have...

I haven’t posted in ages so just to warn you… I probably will ramble on and make up for lost time! Yesterday was the finale of the TALKS series hosted by the third years to raise money for their end of degree show! And what a way to finish; hat-trick are ranked #1 in the 2010 Design Week Creative Survey! Here’s Sam, Tom & Dani getting excited about the talk next to the screen printed...

Warning: This is going to be a long post with a lot of amazing Graphic Design – get a coffee, sit comfortably and be inspired! Studio 8 came to visit us Lincoln Students on Wednesday! It was held in ‘our’ Faculty building(Art, Architecture & Design), but I think I’ve only been in there once on an open day so it was a new experience! What a maze! Anyway, back to the important part… Studio 8...

Just been to Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair at Lincoln’s Engine Shed this afternoon and managed to keep my Graphic Designer eye out to find a gem amongst all of the tat and clutter…. Page 27(and 28) from an old french magazine…. J’adore ça! It’s well nice! And what a bargain at 50p! It has some lovely typographic fetaures… It will look très jolie on my wall in a frame! I think I will try to find...

Last night I went to Lincoln’s Kind Bar for an Anti-Valentines evening of Screen Printing, Illustration and music held by Break Your Socks. It was a really chilled, cool evening with a great creative atmosphere! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who can get to Lincoln – it’s a monthly thing – wahey! I will see you at the next one for sure, but first check out my images from last night: On sale...
