Non stop

It’s been such a busy week; meetings, auction 13 stuff, RGB stuff, blog stuff, press & comms stuff, photos and videos. It’s all very exciting, but all very tiring.

We have received 26 postcards so far and began revealing some of the creatives behind them today. Keep up to date with all Auction news here and don’t forget that bidding opens Monday 6th May and ends from 6PM Sunday 12th May!

RGB is back! In February we organised the first RGB fundraising night out and it was such a success that we’re doing another to finish the year. It’s a slight twist this time as we have some special guests so should be fun.

I’ve been continuing to film snippets of Show Thirteen happenings and another video will be live in the morning (I’ve exceeded my vimeo space limit this week – ooops!) – see it here. Within those snippets is some behind the scenes footage of a group year photo that took place on Wednesday:

Awwww don’t we all look nice and squinty? hah Oh and if you can’t tell from that photo, I’ve had my hair done :)

Just one week of timetabled project time left now – where has the time gone!? If anyone knows where Bernard’s watch is…

Watching

So I’m working on a new brief now – an open brief (queue dramatic music)!  Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis is an interesting tale where Gregor, a hardworking travelling salesman, wakes up as a giant bug! The story is full of themes and underlying meanings, and we have been tasked with using the text and/or what it symbolises to create something. I get the feeling I’m being watched…

…and I’ll explain more soon!

Austerity Measures

A little while back I did a behind the scenes post from the photo story shoot in the group project (Divide magazine). We had such a laugh on the day and had so many great shots that when it came to selecting a few for the magazine, we had such a hard task! It turned out so much better than we had imagined, so it would be such a waste not to share them with the world. Enjoy:

Some of them are pretty awesome, don’t you think?

The theme of the photo shoot was ‘Austerity Measures’. We chose to interpret the situation with politics & the government by having a paint fight. The paint symbolises all of the rubbish that we just have to stand there and take. Towards the end, we began to rebel and fight back. This tied in with our magazine’s motto of being active rather than passive.

As well as the polished, digital images, we used lomo for a different effect:

We also produced a short film which shows all the action:

So, what do you think?

Behind the scenes – Austerity Measures Photoshoot

After a lot of planning, this morning it was finally time to do the photo shoot for the group project. I don’t think I’ve really mentioned about the latest project – it’s a group magazine project with the theme being ’21st century’. My group is Amber, Emma, Lucy, Sunjay, Tom and myself – with our magazine being called Divide.

The brief requires us 13 pages each individually, as well as a front cover and a group photo story on the theme of ‘austerity measures’.  After several phone calls, we secured permission to use a local location known as Liquorice Park.

We gathered a team of photographers and models an and hoped for the best with the weather. It was just typical of the British weather that once we got on location it rained! Luckily it stopped and we set to work:

…and then just as we were finishing up, it rained again! Fingers crossed the photos will come out awesome!

Thanks to everyone that helped – Steve, Josh, Sunjay, Tom & Evelyn on photography and Amber, Lucy, Emma, Talveer, Jack, Sara & Glen on modelling. It was great fun!

Keen on Zine

I am sooooo keen on the latest Visual Expression project to make a zine – my fave project so far!

For those of you who don’t know what a zine is, it’s a handmade, mini magazine which has a small print run of usually 500 or less.  They are usually quirky, controversial and very experimental so the complete opposite to the Magazine project (for which I received some quite good feedback in a critique on Friday afternoon – grade to be continued!) I had for the Graphic Design module before christmas!

I first became aware of zines back in 2010 when Llymlrs, a Graphic Design student whose fashion blog I follow, made one… never thought I would have the time to make one so having it set as a project is just perfect!

I don’t do enough quirky design; I find my design style to be very clean and neat but I actually really do like messy, weird design! I’m hoping that my choice of the smoking culture community (the subject of the zine is a community which we had to choose and research over the christmas holidays) will allow for a lot of weird, dirty and wonderful experimentation!

I have sooooo many ideas already – ahhhh sooooo excited about this project it’s unreal! Oh and another great thing about this project is that we have to blog our progress! Zine + Blog + Tasha = LOVE

This post is actually REALLY late in the project – the deadline is actually this Thurs (24th)! Oops! Been having too much fun! :)

Here are some photos of my typographic illustrations which are forming the basis of my zine…

All laid out on the kitchen table – 9 A3 pages = 36  A5 illustrations!

Watch this space for more… and the chance to buy one maybe? :)
