Exciting Envelopes

I love the internet, social networking and email – it’s all so fast and easy. However, for me, there’s nothing quite like getting post. I love it! So  mix that feeling with the idea of receiving post from some of the best creatives in the world and you can just imagine; I’m like a kid at Christmas!

Auction 13 is well underway and exciting envelopes stamped with our 13 have been  appearing. It’s a brilliant feeling and it gets better when the envelopes are opened – the postcards we’ve received have been amazing. They will be revealed soon so keep an eye on the twitter (@auctionthirteen) and blog.

Whilst I love what’s inside the envelopes, it’s interesting to see the outside too. The postcards have travelled across the world in some cases (even by pigeon apparently!) and the geek that I am, I like to see the different postal marks and stamps. Some envelopes have been personalised too – top marks for that! I love the personal touch:

Who else gets excited about getting post? Do you appreciates postage details? A few months back, Lestaret introduced me to a new world of mail art. Basically people just make things and send them to each other – sounds great to me! The IUOMA (International Union of Mail-Artists) website has nearly 3,000 members all creating and swapping. If I had more time it’s something I’d love to get involved with. Maybe I will, one day…

Until then, I’ll be busy with Auction 13 – don’t forget to follow us for more information on the creatives involved and the auction itself. Get saving your pennies to make sure you can bid!

Multidisciplinary Project: Leisure – Making Part 4

As promised, here are the pictures of my finished hat and scarf (I downloaded the trial of CS5 – YAY!)…

Not the best edit ever but it will do :)

… and my sister is probably going to kill me for putting this up here but nevermind, I needed a model!

I woke up at 6.30am today (my day off) to go over the design in pen and it took me until 8.40am!! I’m glad it’s over lol I used a black biro in the end and it worked ok.

It does kinda look like cupcakes rather than lights, but nevermind! Voila! Finito!

Oh and here are my stamps on envelopes…

I’m not really very happy with how they scanned in – I think I prefer them as just prints – the detail is wasted when they are so small?

Multidisciplinary Project – Leisure: Making Part 3

The last part of the multidisciplinary project – finally!

I chose to do some stamps because they are important in travel and leisure

I kept with the gambling/seaside theme and created a fruit machine inspired design from lino

Here is the first of the series - 3 pairs (unusual as usually 2 is a pair!)

I was glad to get to do some more linocutting before the end of the year – as I have said before, I love it :)

Here are the first prints :

I chose green as I associate it with gambling and money but thought it looked a bit boring…

So I added some yellow and it mixed in with the green and created a nice effect (or so I think anyway)

Pleased with the result, I carved my next two designs into lino…

3 cherries… don’t ask me what the pay out is though!

and 3 ice creams – there had to be some kind of twist!

I continued the theme of using green for the border and another colour for the object…

I’m quite pleased with how they came out – what do you think?

I cropped them down a bit so you can get a better idea of how they would look…

I think I might have to scan them into photoshop and edit the colour of the borders so they are all the same shade of green maybe?

Otherwise I am happy!

I have some other developments on the scarf – I have pencilled the pattern on! It took like 3 hours! And I’ve got to do it in pen now- wish me luck because I have a feeling the pen is going to run out on me!

Also, today I have taken some pictures of the hat in situ, but I am still editing them (I am the model so it might take a while) so if you’re interested keep checking back and I will put them up soon hopefully :)

Comments welcome as always!
