Yesterday was a long day. Team Divide spent 12 hours in the library going over everything with a fine tooth comb: After printing contact sheets of all the spreads, we all looked over them closely: Harshest crit ever! Change this. Get rid of this. Move this by half a point. This needs a full stop not a question mark. It got a little heated haha After sorting the last adjustments, the magazine begins to take...

I’m a bit behind schedule (I went to London – more about that soon), but on Thursday we were lucky enough to have ex-Lincolner Steve Fenn visit and crit work for our group magazine project. Our tutor, Glen, and Steve looked through our magazine spreads as we explained our ethos, articles and design choices. Steve had worked at Studio8 before they split, but now has his own studio with other ex- Lincolner, Tom Pollard –...

Just thought I would do a quick post about why I’ve been at Uni on a Saturday. Emma & I have been helping out with the University of Lincoln open days for a couple of weeks now. We both love to talk and we both love our course, so I guess we are the perfect pair to talk to all of the fresh faces that could be the next generation of Lincoln Graphic Design students....

The past couple of weeks have been non-stop with this group magazine project. I know that I always say I’m busy, but this project is the busiest yet. This is the first ‘real’ group project we’ve had and it’s definitely been an eye opener. Working as a group takes a lot of planning, discussion, compromise and is just generally tiring. We’re aiming to impress too, so putting a lot of extra effort in… On Friday,...

After a lot of planning, this morning it was finally time to do the photo shoot for the group project. I don’t think I’ve really mentioned about the latest project – it’s a group magazine project with the theme being ’21st century’. My group is Amber, Emma, Lucy, Sunjay, Tom and myself – with our magazine being called Divide. The brief requires us 13 pages each individually, as well as a front cover and a...

So I ventured out into the cold, dark night to take some photos of the new Graphic Design window display at TPH: It looks great doesn’t it? Everything within the display was created yesterday in  2 hours at the Day of the dead themed All Year Day. Such a range of skulls were produced; from collaged skulls… … typographic skulls… … moustached skulls… … floral skulls… … and fruity skulls!   The light box was...

So yesterday was Halloween and Lincoln GD were celebrating in the way we know best: being creative. We did an inter-year design challenge around the end of last year and it was a good opportunity to meet some people from other years and just a great laugh. With it falling on Halloween & the 3rd years having been working on some skulls in mentoring, it made sense that we continued with the Day of the dead...

It’s the last year that BA (Hons) Graphic Design (and a few other creative courses) will be housed in Thomas Parker House as by September 2013 there will be a brand new building on campus for the new and continuing students. TPH (as we call it) used to be a Co-Op department store and I’ve heard some lovely little stories about how an elderly lady used to still try and get in to buy her...

Today we had our first mentoring session of 3rd year. Our mentors, Glen & Chris, have planned some activities for us over the year to help us bond as a year group and think about what kind of designer we want to be after we graduate etc The first couple of sessions are themed around ‘Día de los Muertos’ which is Spanish for ‘Day of the dead’. It’s a Mexican holiday/festival in which people gather...

Today was my first day back at Uni. I was so excited/nervous about going back for my final year in education – eeek! In 3rd year, students are divided into 2 classes/teams, Emigre and Zembla, which adds a bit of friendly competition. I’m in team Zembla: Go team Zembla! Zembla was a super cool literary and arts magazine. It’s unfortunately not in print  anymore, but eight issues were published between 2003 and 2005. With Vince Frost...

It’s that time of year again – the sun is out (kind of), the University year is over and the new grads are looking for jobs. The first stop? New Blood, of course! I have been excited about going to New Blood since this time last year – I just love everything about it! This year, I went with my girls Emma, Amber and Lucy (the orange arm owner!) and we stayed in London for a...

So yesterday I showed you work from the main room: Emma gave it a thumbs up! Now it’s on to the rest of the exhibition… Above, is work by the boys from the ‘web team’ responsible for the 53dn website. They happen to be playing monopoly/’looking after’ the exhibition until 4pm today so I’m sure they would appreciate some visitors if you can make it down to TPH – just under 2 hours left if you...

It’s 2012 – the year of 53 Degrees North. Emma and I spent 2 hours looking around the exhibition on Wednesday and took nearly 200 photos! There was so much good work that when it came down to choosing what to blog about I found it really hard. I managed to whittle it down to 32 photos and 14 videos (the reason I have decided to do videos is so that you can see multiple...

Excitement running high and booze flowing – the private view of the 53 degrees north show was in full swing Friday evening! As mentioned before, I was going to help out/be nosy/network and I had a great time. The keen team: Tom, myself, Emma, Talveer, Harry, Dave, Sophie and Jack. It was a really exciting but scary just to think that in a year it will be my turn! Chris and Barrie gave emotional speeches and...

It’s been 7 weeks since my last post – that makes me feel ashamed! I’ve been really busy up until last week and then I think I got a bit overwhelmed with how much catching up I had to do. I felt like the longer I left it, the more pressure there was and I didn’t know where to start. I’m biting the bullet now and sorting it all out. It’s been beautiful weather recently...
