Just thought I would do a quick post about why I’ve been at Uni on a Saturday. Emma & I have been helping out with the University of Lincoln open days for a couple of weeks now. We both love to talk and we both love our course, so I guess we are the perfect pair to talk to all of the fresh faces that could be the next generation of Lincoln Graphic Design students....

It’s the last year that BA (Hons) Graphic Design (and a few other creative courses) will be housed in Thomas Parker House as by September 2013 there will be a brand new building on campus for the new and continuing students. TPH (as we call it) used to be a Co-Op department store and I’ve heard some lovely little stories about how an elderly lady used to still try and get in to buy her...

In my ‘homecoming’ post I mentioned some transformations that had happened in Lincoln. I read in the Lincolnite last week that two shops near the market would showcase work by University of Lincoln postgraduate art & design students: I visited the MA show last year so thought I would check out this years too (but that elderly lady just wanted to use the shop for shelter, cheeky!). You can just about make out a rocket...

So, bad news guys. Looks like you’re stuck with me in England because I won’t be going to Canada – I didn’t make it through to the ADAA 2012 finals. But I’m not sad – I made it to the semi finals out of 5000 entries and I think that’s a pretty good achievement, especially as I wasn’t expecting to get anywhere! It was exciting but a bit complicated sending my work off. I had...

It’s that time of year again – the sun is out (kind of), the University year is over and the new grads are looking for jobs. The first stop? New Blood, of course! I have been excited about going to New Blood since this time last year – I just love everything about it! This year, I went with my girls Emma, Amber and Lucy (the orange arm owner!) and we stayed in London for a...

As I mentioned Saturday, I’m a bit behind on the posts at the moment. Last week was action packed, but today is the first day of a self directed study week so I’m in the middle of making a to-do list – it’s pretty long! Last Tuesday Ben Willers, an ex-Lincoln student visited to talk data visualisation. I visited his MA show back in September so was familiar with his work but as always, it’s...

It’s always great to hear about the success stories of students from Lincoln and hope that at the end of 3rd year, my journey into ‘the real world’/industry will be as good. Today Stewart Linton came back to Lincoln to talk to us about his experience of getting a job, his time at Iris and some advice to help us along the way! Stewart graduated 2 years ago, so just before I came to study...

I’m finding it quite hard to keep posting whilst the workload of my course gets heavier, but I WILL keep it up! Mondays we have the Visual Expression module with Philippa, Barrie (who combined are The Caseroom Press) and new girl, Isil. I briefly mentioned a couple of posts back, that we were starting to produce work for the Penguin Award Book Cover Competition. Now that it’s Week 4 (deadline is Week 6 – Eeeeeeeek!), that is...

After a quite stressful re-branding lesson, it was nice to go up the hill to the Print rooms at the Greestone building this afternoon. I’ve really missed the print room at college, so jumped at the chance to have a play around with inks and screens. After an induction from Emma, the print technician, we had a go at some screen printing of sorts (we didn’t use the photochromic ink, but made stencils with newsprint)…...

We really forget how lucky we are. Wednesday, a Guest lecturer visited Lincoln University to talk to us. We  assumed he would be showing us some nice typography, posters, branding or packaging. Instead he showed us something far more important – the bigger picture. Sitting at my desk this morning, drinking actimel and typing away on my Mac, it is hard to imagine how my life could be if I lived on the other side...

Tonight T-Bish, Dani and I attended the University of Lincoln School of Art & Design Postgraduate Private View Evening 😉 The exhibition is being held at the Greestone Building, which none of us had been to before but Glen was quick to point us in the direction of the Print rooms… … unfortunately locked now but I will be going to have a play about in there sometime soon! 🙂 The building has quite an...

… or there will be, come September for the Fresher’s issue! You are looking at a member of the new 2011/2012 Bullet Magazine design team. Along with some other creatives I know (Sam Dowse, Dave Morris, Jake Townsend and Claire Kearns), I will be helping to design the University of Lincoln’s student magazine 🙂 I’m looking forward to making reading look pretty 🙂

Sooo on Friday I travelled down to LDN for the first day of D&AD’s New Blood 2011 festival with Dani and Bobbins! I was super excited and also really ‘feeling’ London for a change which is really unusual for me! We had such a busy day, I was so drained and felt like I’d walked half of London… which I will explain later! Here’s an attempt at nicely organising all of my souvenirs from my...

It feels a long time since my first post about this project which I am going to say is because I was spending time on the project rather than blogging about it. This is a good thing as I usually procrastinate by blogging rather than doing work but I have learnt to force myself to get into work even when I don’t feel like it, not that it was needed for this project so much....
