Pantone of 2014: Radiant Orchid

Happy New Year – welcome to 2014! So word on the street is that Emerald Green is sooooo last year (sob, I miss it already) and 2014 is all about the 18-3224 TCX- that’s Radiant Orchid to you and me.

So what is Radiant Orchid? Pantone describe it as “an enchanting harmony of fushcia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

I’m not sure that it will be a hit amongst males as it’s quite feminine isn’t it? But I can see it being popular in fashion…

I love the above arrangement of all those Radiant Orchid coloured items – a purple baguette, who’d have thought! I decided to find a few Radiant Orchid items, so if you want to join the trend you can:

The best place to start is of course on the Pantone website where I found this iphone case:

State the obvious, I know, but you could brighten a room with an Orchid from your local garden centre:

Orchids are known as a symbol of perfection, luxury and fertility, so careful where you place yours! But if you’re not very good at keeping plants, these Orchid lights from Wilkinsons might be a better option(and apparenly popular as they’re sold out online):

After that, the search became a bit harder and took a detour into purple/lilac:

Miho the trophy deer from Baltic Mill would make a great addition as a mascot for any office/studio. But if that doesn’t take your fancy, what about this lovely lilac print by Karoline Rerrie:

So my Radiant Orchid colour search was a bit of a fail – I guess the trend hasn’t caught on just yet! Will you be getting ahead of the crowd and embracing the Orchid this year?

I’m liking this new colour, it’s quite girly which I don’t usually go for but it’s nice fresh and bright for the New Year which is always good 🙂

Last year I had my hair colored in pretty much the same color, I made it by blending different kinds of shades of blue, pink and purple/violet. Of course it changed into another color every time I took a shower, which made me very much regret bleaching all of my hair and having to put paint on it every week, so I decided to go back to basics. But, it was a fun experience after all. For me, this year is more browny which I think isn’t such a bad idea after all 😉

I didn’t mention it in the post but funny you should comment about purple hair because a couple of months ago I bought some purple dye but haven’t yet been brave enough to try it. I need to re-dip dye my hair first (because I doubt it will show up on brunette) but eeek – I’m too scared! Maybe I’ll pluck up the courage soon…

Haha good luck! I tried it on my natural brown hair as well, it doesn’t show too much if it’s not for dark blue. I bleached it for the purple. Good thing about dip dye is that you can always cut it off! Let us know whether you’re going to do it or not!

I miss you too, Emerald Green. Curious to see how this new guy (girl?) plays out in the coming year..
