After spending a good 10 weeks on a YCN brief and thinking about submitting my work, it was good timing for  Zoe from YCN to pop in to speak to us Lincoln Graphic Design students. I went to the YCN talk last year but looking back, I think quite a lot of it went over my head as I was a first year and so wasn’t thinking about the competition briefs. This time I found...

I feel like I’ve posted about my limited edition poster a lot recently, but this time it’s not all about me! Our Visual Expression tutors, Philippa and Barrie, kindly arranged for our work to be exhibited at the Greestone building for a week. Emma and I headed up the hill to have a look… There was a variety of processes used, from embossing to spray painting and screen printing to letterpress. All of the posters looked great...

Well, I mean squeegee. You might remember, Tuesday was P day – Print day! I booked into the print room to produce my final 6 limited edition posters After 8 hours of light box tracing and scalpal-ing, I had templates for the 2nd (black), 3rd (blue) and 4th (grey) colours of my poster. I had to hand cut my stencils because I wasn’t able to silk screen print due to the massive volume of 2nd years...

I’m finding it quite hard to keep posting whilst the workload of my course gets heavier, but I WILL keep it up! Mondays we have the Visual Expression module with Philippa, Barrie (who combined are The Caseroom Press) and new girl, Isil. I briefly mentioned a couple of posts back, that we were starting to produce work for the Penguin Award Book Cover Competition. Now that it’s Week 4 (deadline is Week 6 – Eeeeeeeek!), that is...

Week 3 in Thomas Parker House (Big Graphics House) and it feels like Week 10. So much going on, so much work being done and so much to do still! On Monday (feels like so long ago, but this is the first chance I’ve really had to sit down and post) we were given the opportunity to look through the now 3rd year’s portfolios from 2nd year. This year (2nd year) has been dubbed ‘The...

We really forget how lucky we are. Wednesday, a Guest lecturer visited Lincoln University to talk to us. We  assumed he would be showing us some nice typography, posters, branding or packaging. Instead he showed us something far more important – the bigger picture. Sitting at my desk this morning, drinking actimel and typing away on my Mac, it is hard to imagine how my life could be if I lived on the other side...

Sooo on Friday I travelled down to LDN for the first day of D&AD’s New Blood 2011 festival with Dani and Bobbins! I was super excited and also really ‘feeling’ London for a change which is really unusual for me! We had such a busy day, I was so drained and felt like I’d walked half of London… which I will explain later! Here’s an attempt at nicely organising all of my souvenirs from my...

Check me out! Ahhh so excited/happy about this! My University tutor asked me to be a guest contributor on the course blog, Discourse and you know me – I love blogging so couldn’t pass down the opportunity! My first post is one that you might recognise as J’adore LetterMPress App for Ipad but I will be doing some other posts about current designy things exclusively for Discourse! (I will let you know though!) Looking forward to filling...

Every year a group of students graduate from Lincoln’s BA (Hons) Graphic Design course and show off their work by putting together an end of year exhibition. This is the year of Show Elleven. I’ve just finished my first year so the whole idea of a final degree show is really scary but exciting at the same time. Yesterday I popped in to look around Show Elleven… To understand the next bit, you need to...

I can’t believe it’s the end of my first year at University already! Thank god for being a design student – NO EXAMS! Eeek 🙂 I have had such an amazing year, I don’t know how I can top it… oh wait, yeah I do – Year two! 😉 I had my feedback review yesterday with T-Fab and Glen. I was a nervous wreck! Trust me to have my review on Friday the 13th! Without...

It feels a long time since my first post about this project which I am going to say is because I was spending time on the project rather than blogging about it. This is a good thing as I usually procrastinate by blogging rather than doing work but I have learnt to force myself to get into work even when I don’t feel like it, not that it was needed for this project so much....

I haven’t posted in ages so just to warn you… I probably will ramble on and make up for lost time! Yesterday was the finale of the TALKS series hosted by the third years to raise money for their end of degree show! And what a way to finish; hat-trick are ranked #1 in the 2010 Design Week Creative Survey! Here’s Sam, Tom & Dani getting excited about the talk next to the screen printed...
